Over the past years, the Golden Gate Bridge is known as the Bridge of Death. It has claimed many lives since 1937. It is known as a tourist attraction, however it also attracts those from other states who are contemplating suicide. According to statistics, since the bridge opened there has been more than 1600 deaths recorded. As the board of the Golden Gate Bridge we propose that we make the bridge suicide proof. There are some citizens who would argue against the board’s proposal to make the bridge suicide proof. In order to approve it our main arguments consist of three: First, the bridge’s modification may become unattractive for tourists; second, it will be expensive to modify the bridge; and finally, it will cause cut backs and raise

But, tourism is a big part of how California gets its money. In fact, Claire Bradley stated that in 2009, California generated 87.7 billion because of their tourist touring California’s variety of hotspots such as national parks, the Golden Gate Bridge, various theme parks, and also expansive beaches. However, the Golden Gate Bridge is not the only hotspot for tourists and just because it may be modified does not mean it will take away its reason to be visited by tourists. The second argument, stating that it will be expensive to modify the bridge relates to the third; raising taxes or cutting back on other programs may furiate some citizens, however it is for the greater good. As the board we believe that once they put thought into the idea they will not be as furious as before, because the suicide rate may not matter to everyone, but it will once it becomes personal to them. However, if American taxpayers are funding abortion at Planned Parenthood in 17 states, including California; why not fund a good cause to modify the Golden Gate Bridge to decline the suicide rate. And finally, our last argument that claims everyone should have the decision to end their lives if that is what they wish is something that cannot be ignored.
