Suicide bombings is a strategy designed to strike fear, intimidation, and increase opportunities of political or a religious victory. These attacks gives smaller militant groups power to coerce larger governments politically. Suicide attacks are favored as they can have a better success in penetrating hard secure targets. I think they are not mad and they as most people may not know are normal, intelligent, deeply integrated into the social networks, and connected to their communities. We tend to miss label them as sick, poor, desperate to join a cause, and even driven by revenge to utilize that as a motivation behind their reasoning.

When someone is seeking retaliation they are willing to sacrifice their own integrity, social standing and personal safety for the satisfaction of retaliating.
