Argumentative Essay: The Birth Control Pill

In today`s society, birth control is a highly debatable topic, it is also something that is used a lot. A lot of people know what contraceptives are, but they are unsure of the types, benefits, and side effects of them. The most common type is the pill, but there are also IUD`s and they both have advantages and disadvantages. There are many methods to use birth control, however the birth control pill is the only type that is taken orally. The pill has to be taken every day for the whole month; however, when a woman is menstruating they can either not take a pill for this time, or some birth control pills come with placebo pills. Either one would work because when someone is menstruating the chances of becoming pregnant are very low, once this time is over, they will need to begin taking the pills again. Some advantages of the pill include; when they are taken correctly they are over 99% effective, it will sometimes reduce acne, it can make ovulation less painful, your …show more content…
This is a good choice for women who often forget to take the pill, it is also over 99% effective. Some advantages include; long but reversible contraception, reduced menstruation bleeding and pain, sometimes it will eliminate bleeding all together, it is more effective than other contraceptives, and they do not need to remember to take a pill every day. Some disadvantages include; it could become misplaced, or it can come out itself, there is a chance of infection, and it does not protect someone from a sexually transmitted disease (STD). A study was done by doing pap smears, which is a common screening test. This was done to test for nonneoplastic findings. “These results reflect the fact that the IUDs disrupt vaginal flora more than OPs do.” (BEDIR, Servet, Nurcan, & Jale, 2013).
