Argumentative Essay: The Age-Gap Of Age

There are certain boundaries put up by our society that are meant to create a field of things that are right, and the outlying things that are wrong. While some of these boundaries are fair, and are there for a good reason - to protect others, to ensure the best for everyone, and to create a more perfect society -, others can be too unrealistic or too harsh. One of these boundaries that has been an issue for quite a bit of time is the age-gap. Many men and women are shamed for their interest or relationships with their partner if they have a significant gap of age between them despite if they have obvious interest in each other. While sometimes you can often see how people who shame those people have “good intentions”, it is wrong to judge someone simply because of the difference in their ages. Some will give the argument that they may have little to nothing in common, and while that may be true in some aspects, there are many that have a wide variety of interests that would intersect with their partner’s interest. Daily Mail has said, “It doesn't seem to matter how wise we all are to the fact that age-gap relationships are unlikely to last,” despite there being plenty of lasting relationships with couples that have an age difference and many relationships that don’t last even though they are of the same age. Some sites will make their coverage personal, such as with Stephen Fry; The Sun titled their article about the then pending marriage of Stephen Fry, “Comedian Stephen, 57, to marry toyboy, 27,” which very directly points out their age difference. We as a community have the opportunity to change these boundaries, to push the social norm to the edges, and make our community more idyllic. When there is mutual interest between two or more people, why should we, as a tolerant and accepting society, judge them for
