“Suicide isn’t cowardly. Ill tell you what is cowardly; treating people so badly that they want to end their lives”, by Ashley Purdy. The words and actions you make can affect others lives drastically. The ”Suicide by Text” case has prompted many people to discuss social issues such as selfishness and depression.
Michelle Carter carter convinced Conrad Roy to kill himself. She convinced him to use carbon monoxide poisoning by locking himself in his truck with a running generator in Massachusetts. Michelle Carter was frustrated that Conrad Roy kept delaying his suicide that she just decide to convince him to do it. This event took action on July of 2014. In my opinion the fact that Michelle Carter was found guilty by the judicial system seems just about right. The only thing I didn’t agree with is the amount of time in jail she was sentenced to. Stated by Emily Shapiro “Michelle Carter, who as a teenager sent texts urging her then-boyfriend to commit suicide, was sentenced today to 2.5 years in the Bristol County House of Correction for involuntary manslaughter, with 15 months to be served and the rest suspended, followed by five years of probation.” This whole tragedy comes to …show more content…
Depression is another aspect that can have a relation to the Suicide by Text case. Depression can make a person feel sad, worthless, hopeless, and have suicidal thoughts. The source I used, https://www.drugs.com/cg/depression.html states, “Depression is a medical condition that causes feelings of sadness or hopelessness that do not go away. Depression may cause you to lose interest in things you used to enjoy. These feelings may interfere with your daily life.” Conrad Roy was a victim of depression. Michelle Carter knew of his feelings. She did not only take advantage of him but manipulate him to make him end his life to better her
