Imagine going to school everyday and getting made fun of. According to the American SPCC, which is a bullying prevention group, “On average, 70.6% of young people say they have seen bullying in their schools” (Bullying). This causes many students to become violent. The NVEEE, which stands for, National Voices for Equality, Education, and Enlightenment states, “About 10% to 20% of children who become the target of bullying go on to perpetrate the same aggression as well, mainly as a form of proactive survival and defending against further attacks” (Bullying). They wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. This group was created after the death of many teens that were lost because of bullying. Laura and Kirk Smalley’s, 11 year old son, Ty Smalley ended his life because his school was not doing anything to stop his bullies. Stand for Silent says “After being bullied for two years, Ty Smalley took his life because he was suspended for finally retaliating back at the bully” (End). Laura and Kirk want to inform other families of their situation so it doesn't happen to their families. They travel to multiple schools to educate them on their story and explain how devastating it can be to lose someone. According to Stand for Silent, “As of May 2010, the Smalleys’ have spoken to over 580,000 kids and have visited hundreds of schools” (End). Stand for Silent goes on, “Not only have they visited schools, but they have personally met with President Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House to attend the first ever conference discussing bullying” (End).
