Argumentative Essay: Sibling Rivalry

Almost everyone in the world has siblings, but there are some family situations where there is only one child. However, if one has ever had siblings themselves, they have probably fought with them before. What is known as ‘sibling rivalry’ is quite a common occurrence in any family. Furthermore, there are various reasons that can uncover why siblings fight, such as because of situations of unequal treatment, differences in age, or simply touching the other’s stuff.
At times, when siblings do not get along, one reason may be due to an age gap. According to Kusum, a writer, he writes, “While growing up, one usually fights over belongings that your sibling wanted to own.” For example, the oldest child may be watching their favorite shows on television. On the contrary, the youngest wants to watch cartoons instead. And not having developed manners, the youngest child has a tendency to take the remote control, causing the older sibling to become irritated. However, young kids only play around sometimes. It might not be their intentions to cause their siblings to become aggravated. They simply just want what they want. And at a young age, they may not yet be familiar with the concept of consequences, which they will later learn during adulthood.
In conclusion, siblings will have fights and conflicts with each other, whether it is because one of them touches the other siblings stuff, the age difference situation, or they are treated unequally. Sibling rivalry, however, is quite ordinary and normal in the family situation. On the other hand, families involving parents with only one child will not be familiar with this
