Argumentative Essay: Should Women Be In The Military?

Many question whether women should be in the military and many worry that if there were to be another draft they would lose both there sons and daughters. Currently women are not allowed into some of the positions that men are, according to Military Times, over 220,000 jobs are still not available for women, most of the jobs being in “Army and Marine Corps infantry and armor units.” CNN mentions that “The strongest opposition comes from Special Operations forces. In December 2015, 85% of them believed women should stay away from Special Operations jobs altogether (and 70% opposed serving with them in individual units, citing their inferior mental and physical strength).” There are approximately 1.4 million men and women in the military, but out of those 1.4 there are only 38 women ranked as four star officers or general/admiral, …show more content…
Officials from the studies warn not to conclude too much from this study though, because these statistics can be improved by screening and better training to improve the overall performance of women. Rather, it is a test to see what needs to be improved on in their training of military women and in their squads. According to Strategic Studies Institute the more women in a squad there was the farther the increase in intelligence, decision making and critical thinking became. Currently there should be no fear of your daughter being drafted because only men are registered into the Selective Service thus there will be no means for them to draft the women. If the women were to be instated into the Selective Service, then the Congress would have to amend a law in the Selective Service that states that only men needs be registered and would be drafted if necessary. So in the current society today, women will not be getting drafted anytime soon until that law has been amended allowing the Selective Service to register the women for the possible issue of drafting
