The actions of gun activists who wish to not have the AR-15 banned are constitutional, because the constitution says we have a right to bear arms in the name of protecting ourselves. The AR-15 is a highly controversial gun which has led to several deaths as a result of misuse of the weapon. It is an extremely sad reality that there are so many lives lost, when it comes to what is supposed to be something used for protection. The AR-15 has been used in several shootings, examples being the Aurora theatre shooting, the Clackamas Mall shooting, and the shooting of 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary. It matters to them that they have their constitutional rights protected. The argument they use is that while we may not have King George ruling over us anymore, we have far worse. Our military is very strong and it could potentially, if it were to turn corrupt, harm its citizens, as it is not an uncommon thing to happen in the history of our world. The Second Amendment does say that we have the right to bear arms. Andy Holt, a Tennessee representative, was giving away AR-15s at a campaign event, and he received a lot of backlash for it. He claims that if he gave someone an airplane, he would be accused of trying to replicate 9-11. People claim that it is their right, and that not all people are not responsible enough to handle owning a gun. It is the few people that are not responsible that need to be screened and watched out for. Guns can take away lives, but they can also save them. If we were to ban AR-15s , another argument says that there would just be another weapon that would be popularized to use in mass shootings.
