Argumentative Essay: Should Teens Have Birth Control?

Decent Essays
Do you agree with teens having birth control rather its condoms, the pill, the shot, etc.? I believe we as parents and society should encourage teen birth control because it has so many benefits that come with it such as not getting impregnated or catching a STD/STI. Many don’t agree with them having birth control because of teen irresponsibility’s and health issues.
On one hand, statistics show that it is more common for teens to start using birth control at age 16, but statistics also show that 3.9% of students have sex before the age of 13; just enough to be considered as 1 to many. I feel like if you’re having sex before the age of 13 or even after, that you’re going to continue to have sex so as parents we should prevent teen pregnancy as well as viruses as soon as possible. Did you know in 2015, a total of 229,715 babies were born to teenagers ages 15-19? The teen pregnancy rate wasn’t the only thing to sky rocket, since adolescents are responsible for almost half of the 20 million new HIV cases every year.

Another concern is their teen not taking the pill rather it’s on purpose or accidental or if the teens is not properly educated about sex and birth control will they think just because their on birth control it is now ok to have unprotected sex not knowing all the risk. There are many forms of birth control not only for females such as condoms, the pill/shot, emergency contraceptives and abstinence. Teen pregnancy is not the only reasons you should take birth control, there are viruses and diseases out there that need to be prevented as

If one can conceive, one has the right to protect themselves from pregnancy, no matter the age. Overall, birth controls are beneficial. There are some, non severe, side effects of being on the pill, but if the correct research is done prior to starting the pill, the pill is safe. Putting birth control on the counters, for anyone to buy at their own need, poses no threat to the community nor teenagers individually. However, those who are supporting forcing teens to notify or get consent from their parents to “promote the best interests of young women and improve family communications” fail to realize they are stripping teens of their right of privacy which is unconstitutional. In France, the government pays for girls to have birth control without parental consent, and as the government pays for it, that adds another level of privacy. They are doing this because they believe it will “reduce the teen pregnancy rate” (Judy Molland) which they think is also due to “ignorance, taboo and lack of access to contraception” (Judy Molland). Many do not see keeping contraception’s away from teens as a safe way to keep them from having sex or running into sexual…

Comprehensive knowledge to these subjects will be provided in the classroom including: birth controls, the use of condoms to prevent STI/STD’s, sexual behavior, meanwhile also encouraging abstinence and delayed sexual activity. Few parents disagree with school’s providing the information to their children; although, the parents who do contradict may not be willing to provide information about this subject and the knowledge the adolescents need to know. A child has the ability to have sexual interactions whether or not they are taught safe sex; so why not provide the information they need to know to keep themselves…
