While you're paying money to go see sea animal do tricks, looking like they're happy and having the time of their lives, you’re actually just paying for more equipment for them to make these sea animals lives even more miserable. In captivity, many sea animals such as Orcas suffer from poor physical and mental health. When they are not in captivity they can travel 50 to 100 miles a day. But with them being in places like sea world their tanks are normally only twice their size, forcing the animals to swim in small circles or float aimlessly.(Lemonick 2) Sea animals should not be in captivity. That is not how their lives are meant to be. It not only bad for their health but comes with serious consequences. Aggressive whale behavior to humans, …show more content…
“We foster the ideology that these creatures should be performing for us. What kind of education is that? It’s gross injustice.” says Kevin Walsh (Lemonick 2) This statement is very true. Animals that are naturally meant to be swimming around and doing as they please, they should not be having to be given food, to do strange tricks, that is not fair and does not come natural to them. There are many whales that are now starting to attack humans, studies show that they never attack when they are in the wild. The species killer whales are now so traumatized by being in their tiny pool that they call “suitable captivity” that they are now turing on their human trainers and killing or at least hurting them. (Business time 1) A former seaward employee speaks up about his experience with the animals and how they where treaded. “I owe those whales”, he states “They gave me so much in my life and my career. But the whales’ physical and emotional well-being, he grew to believe, was incompatible with captivity.” (Hargrove 1) He said that the incapability to take care of these animals and the things they made them do turned them over to the “dark

One of the first examples the directors present is when a neurologist put an orca brain inside a CAT scan and found that whales have a part of the brain that humans don’t have and that Whales can process emotions very highly and much more heavily then human beings do. This drives people to a talking point about how whales communicate often and have their own language to accomplish tasks as a group like providing food for their whale families. This affirmation that whales can feel through scientific research (logos) also helps strengthen the pathos approach to build a more formidable argument. A huge data point they point out is that their most violent whale Tilikum is also reproducing 58% of whale population in…

Have you ever seen those cute little Whales doing tricks at places like seaworld? Has it ever crossed your mind that these whale could be hurting in that show bizz life? The thing is these creatures are way to smart, large, and very complex to be put in a small environment. The injuries that some people know of are from the trainers, but some don't even hear about the animal's injuries. Orcas should not be in captivity because they get injured, don't have enough room to swim, and don't live as long as they would in the wild.…

Whales Whales in captivity is a horrible thing because the whales are separated from their familie, are forced to perform in front of screaming audiences, and they can act out and hurt humans and each other in small spaces. Male orca whales have collapsed dorsal fins. When there in the wild there dorsal fin stays straight up. When there in captivity there dorsal fin collapses. This is most likely because they are cramped up in a tight place so they can’t swim freely.…

Removing killer whales from their natural habitats does indeed have certain negative effects on these marine animals. According to a report released by The Humane Society titled “Killer Controversy: Why Orcas Should No Longer Be Kept in Captivity”, the mortality rate for orcas held in captivity is two and half times higher than when in the wild. It has also been reported that the annual survival rates are significantly lower in captive orcas. Killer whales also exhibit certain behaviors when in captivity that are not observed when they are in their natural environment. For instance, female orcas have shown rejection and aggression towards their newborns more often when they are in captivity compared to the wild- in the wild, this behavior is a rare occurrence.…

I agree with the position of the Japanese and Norwegian whalers, in that an international ban on whaling seems to be enforcing strictly moral concerns on their whaling activity (Culture and Globalization, Levin Institute). Assuming that their whaling practices are conducted humanely, and do not create an undue strain on the population of the animals or the environment, I don't think it makes sense for them to be subject to any punitive measures by the international community just for hunting. They should recieve an exemption to allow for appropriate hunting practices. Eating meat is a common practice in most nations of the world, and there are plenty of cultural disagreements about which meats are appropriate to eat. There are cultures that forego pork products, cultures that revere cattle, and yet here in the U.S. both of those animals are easily purchased for consumption.…

I’ve always hear about the controversy of whaling still going on the news, but usually about Japan doing it for scientific research. I’m surprised to learn that Norway does it also, but openly defying the ban by having it done commercially. Is something wrong if most of the world agree is wrong, or is it justified because it is a tradition? Can science justified if something is wrong or good? Does the world has right to tell a country that what they’re doing is wrong and can they force it to stop?…

Descartes states “animals are ours to use in anyways we want. They are not sentient” (Vaughn 543). This statement has been long disagreed with but it puts perspective on the side of Sea World that is used for human pleasure. This is something that cannot be viewed on an everyday basis nor by people all over the world.…

In Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s film, Blackfish (2013), Cowperthwaite captures the psychological torture killer whales, specifically Tilikum and Kasatka, face at Sea World after being brutally separated from their families. The film takes us through the journey of captured killer whales becoming mentally unstable and being used for entertainment purposes. This film displays archival footage and interviews with former trainers who had close experiences with killer whales at Sea World. The attacks at Sea World stem from the whales’ separation from their families, the trainer’s demand for the whales to do tricks in solitary confinement, and the punishment done to the whales when their tricks are not properly executed. All major accounts of killer whale attacks on trainers develop through the distress of the whales outside of their natural habitat.…

The way whales get brutally stabbed, and/or tangled, all for their meat is very unpleasant. Putting a ban on the sale of whale meat would dramatically change the outcome of how fast the species is being depleted. If no one were able to buy the delicacy of whale meat, there would no longer be a reason for killing this beautiful species. Even after an attempted ban on commercial whaling itself, Japan, Iceland, and Norway found a loophole in the treaty so they may continue to kill whales legally and inhumanely. “In commercial whaling, some 36,773 whales have been killed since the moratorium decision came into effect.”…
