Children nowadays aren’t innocent as they are perceived to be. A ten year old or seventeen year old murdering his parents shouldn’t be seen as they didn’t know better, they both knew what they were doing and what would be the outcome of committing this crime, yet they still did it. Yes there are children that do not want to be obedient to their parents, those kids need to be rehabilitated and set straight, but setting a murderer to get better or a rapist to get better is a much higher offense then skipping school or stealing chips from a nearby store. Those individuals should be tried as adults and sentenced as an adult. The court system shouldn’t be deciding on how old the criminal is or who they are, instead they should see what the crime is and create sentences accordingly. There is evidence that if children go through early intervention programs in their early childhood, such as preschool enrichment programs, home visits by nurses and higher authority, or even parent management training, these methods are very effective in preventing early age delinquency.
