69% of student athletes believe they should be compensated by universities for the amount of money they bring in. With over half of both players and coaches believing in payment for the athletes, it makes one wonder why the NCAA has not changed the rule yet. There are many college football coaches currently making more than professional football coaches. For example, Nick Saban is currently making $7,000,000 a year (Goldman, Lee). This is more than 27 NFL coaches are paid, showing how lucrative the monopoly, that is college sports, is.…

Should college football players receive money for participating in a football game? Or when players receive a scholarship, payment enough? Craig Keolanui argues that if the players received payment, then fewer players would break the team or NCAA rules. Also he argues that they need compensation for the sacrifices they pay every day for the team. However, the amount of money one would receive does not affect whether or not one will disobey the rules.…

Why college athletes should be paid In 2007 a collegiate football player, Stanley Doughty, gave up his senior year to play for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL and was signed to play for $400,000 for the next 2 years, but found out later that he had a cervical spine injury and he was one hit away from being paralyzed so he was cut by the Chiefs. He needed surgery for it but South Carolina, the college he went to, refused to pay for it even though these players make billions of dollars for their colleges every year (TheAtlantic). These colleges obviously just care about making money and using the players for their sake. If Doughty was able to receive some type of benefit for playing he would have been better off, but instead he has no college…

Athletes getting paid to play has been discussed for long time now. College athletes feel as if they should be played to play since they are bringing in millions of dollars to the university. Some college athletes feel like they should be getting paid because they are the reason that the university is making millions of dollars, but the university doesn’t feel like they should pay them because they gave them a scholarship that covers the athlete’s tuition, housing and other things too through the whole four years they stay. That’s good and all, but how are the athletes going to get money for other things such as hanging out with friends. Some colleges don’t even let their athletes get jobs.…

College athletes should be paid because they’re working a full-time job. If the average NCAA college football player in Division One spends over 40 hours a week on their game, then they are working the same amount as those in full-time employment do. These hours are distributed over training sessions, games, travel and other required sessions that student athletes must attend in order to remain on the team and keep their full scholarship (Top). The majority of these student athletes cannot qualify for work study or apply for off campus job because of their busy…

Many people may or may not believe players are valuable enough to pay them. College players definitely do enough to get paid considering they are the reason most of the time that the team wins. Jared Walch went to the University of Utah and is a writer for USA Today and he writes how sometimes athletes deserve to be paid because of their contribution to their programs (Walch). Players choose to go to a school over other schools because they enjoy that school and want to see that team succeed not any other team, so they work hard to try and win games for their team. Jared Walch who is also a writer for the Daily Utah Chronicles writes on USA Today that performance does not guarantee a paycheck, so just because someone is good does not mean they should be paid big bucks (Walch).…

College Athletes Should Get Paid Big name college athletes as in, Terrelle Pryor, Johnny Manziel, Jameis Winston, and most recently Todd Gurley were fined and suspended for signing autographs or selling their autographs for money. College athletes should get paid enough to buy clothes, food, supplies, and that money could come from getting a piece of money made off of their merchandise. Some college athletes have no money to support themselves in college. College athletes should be paid because of the amount of time themselves and the school put into practicing or playing games, more students would stay in college instead of leaving to the pros for money, the money that the NCAA has available, and the student athletes do not get any share of money or benefits when anything with their name or number gets sold.…

Unfortunately what critics lack to admit is that normal student’s face these same issues, being involved in on campus clubs and other ordeals those normal students face no one truly has a lot of time to get a job. Athletes have built in connections that non-athletes do not have, so being on an athletic team is by far more advantageous then simply being a student. So why should student athletes be the only students benefitting monetarily for their hard work (College Athletes). No one is enslaving nor, “forcing these athlete-students to play football. Don't hand me the garbage about it being their only opportunity in life.…

I could not imagine playing for a bigger school like a state school when you have front row seats going for 3000 dollars and over 50000 each paying a good amount for whatever sport it may be basketball, soccer, baseball, football. It doesn’t matter the bottom line is you have big time presses and news media and organizations pushing for student athletes to get paid. Some make the argument why pay them when they have a full ride for school. Yes we understand that but what about some of the poorer kids that cant afford the gas to get to the practices or for there kid back home but are trying to better themselves to get an education.…
