Throughout the country, a majority of students go into financial debt everyday just to secure their future. The issue causing this massive debt is colleges. College tuition has increased to an unpayable amount for most lower and middle class citizens. This is an very unreasonable, because it hurts our economy, discourages higher education, and creates a disincentive for a more benefiting future. Many solutions have been presented to combat this problem. Some examples are: free college, no tuition for good grades, and reducing college costs flat out. Each of these solutions has its own benefits and disadvantages, but they each pose an overall statement that keeps getting louder and louder in today’s society. College is too expensive. As the government usually does not use all the money in the plan for what they are supposed to, its highly likely that colleges would receive less than average professors, and lesser quality supplies in all. The devalue of a professional degree would greatly increase as numerous people unfit for college would flood in and waste their time and money of the tax payers because they don’t have to pay for it. This discussion has gone on for a very long time and never seems to gain any ground on either side. A separate solution is a reward system. If you keep your GPA above a 2.5 and have a half attendance rate, then you shouldn’t have to pay for your tuition. This plan was proposed by President Obama himself ( ). This proposal is like free college, except it only rewards those who work hard and have good grades, right? Wrong.
