Should college really be free?
First off, scholarships are a way to help students pay for their college tuition, but without these students can eventually find themselves in potential student debt. Obama stated that “And yet, we still live in a country where too many bright, striving Americans are priced out of the education they need.” He’s basically saying that certain people who are in debt or are struggling financially, can’t afford to go to bigger colleges of their dreams, so they settle on community colleges. These are a way to help many students pay for their own college tuition costs. Scholarships are offered for everyone planning to attend college no matter what situation that student is currently in and everyone qualifies for any scholarship that helps receive free money. You can choose to apply that money that you earned from either a sponsor, organization, or charity right to the cost of tuition or maybe spend it later to help cover over costs including; attendance and class fees, food costs, activity fees, or room and board. Obama also brings up the point of “Forty percent of our college students choose community college. Some are young and starting out. Some are older and looking for a better job. Some are veterans and single parents trying to transition back into the job market.” Veterans and single parents attending college can also qualify for scholarships to college and it could help partially cover their tuition for returning back from being over seas and single parents who get scholarships and are returning to college can apply this towards childcare costs.
