A lot of people in the lower income quartile are probably not earning degrees due to having to work full time jobs and not being able to devote all their time to school.Secondly,“On the other hand, other research finds positive effects of programs such as the Pell grant and other state-based grants on students’ persistence and degree attainment” (Soliz). If we relate this back to the first quote it shows that students that don't have to be working through college to be able to pay for it.Lastly,“But repayment would depend on the graduate’s income and would be streamlined in that there would be only one payment made through the Internal Revenue Service. The repayment terms would be more generous for low- and moderate-income students than the current 10 percent or 15 percent of discretionary income earned each year after college”(Bergeron).With a free college system we can tunnel the pay for college through taxes which will decrease the amount of people that need financial aid. Firstly,”Many students would still have to borrow money for their living expenses as well as for books and supplies. So they wouldn't get to leave school completely debt-free”(Luke). Having to pay for books and living expenses cost less than the tuition for college.Secondly,” If a lot more people are able to earn college degrees, then the value of those degrees could decrease. And that could lead to a rising number of workers who are underemployed based on their qualifications”(Luke). Just because college is free doesn't mean that everyone will go. Colleges will still need to have requirements to graduate and will probably have tighter requirements to get into.Overall, There are some good points made of why college should not be free,but college should still be free.
Public College Education should be free because there is a overwhelming amount of student debt,would promote economic growth, and decrease the amount of people who seek forms of public assistance. While people who have already graduated college may not see the effects the students of tomorrow will feel. Making society pay for college through taxes or the students pay through taxes are two great ways to make college free. If it's not possible to make college free it should at least be at a low cost that it does not cripple a person through debt. If we want to make the future better we have
