Reality versus Perceptibility

Growing up I remember watching so many books, shows, and movies about high school. A few of them taught lessons. A few of them portrayed high school to be the greatest time or the worst time of your life. Some even went above and beyond to show you what high school was about, while staying true but being overly dramatic. Watching kinda helped me realized what some people want us to believe and what it actually is. Watching degrassi really hit home for me. It showed me about the drug abuse teens go through, the peer presure the

In the Film “Waiting for Superman” the representation of schools in America is weighted down greatly by the “bad” or prone to failure schools. The film helps the viewer understand that many educational systems and school districts in America are lacking not only in one area but many, and gives us specific scenarios in which students have been affected. The film contributes a well-rounded view of the Educational problems in America today and ways in which we can help make a change and make sure our future generations are able to have a better experience. The film itself gave great insight on the different day to day problems different families have to deal with in order to give their children a better future.…

Ever since I can remember, there were always sitcoms on Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, and ABC Family that portrayed high school students as being adults who were mature for their ages and completely independent of their parents. Some of my favorite examples are Kim Possible, That’s So Raven, House of Anubis, and Degrassi—all of which have the basic story line of teens trying to find their places in the world. They have similar character designs, in that each person is rarely subjected to their parents’ rules, and they look much older than suggested. Between six and thirteen years old, I was convinced that I would be as cool as the characters in the shows throughout my high school career.…

A basic human tendency when meeting new people is to automatically assume many things about them just based on their physical appearance. People don’t often consider the fact that a person’s exterior doesn’t have any correlation with their interior. Many people struggle to overcome or ignore this bad habit, for it can lead to the downfall of what might have possibly been a great relationship. In the film, The Outsiders, this concept of judging someone by their appearance, seems to be popular and a very important part of the plot. It can even tie in on the factors on who was cast solely by appearance and physical features.…

When I first read the instructions for this assignment, I was quite confused. I was unsure of what film or show I would write about. It’s not often one hears the word “utopic.” It’s easy to pick a movie or show that involves discrimination in gender, race, class, etc. It’s not easy to find one that shows us the exact opposite, or how one should be really treated.…

This week, we discussed school and how it felt to us over the years, and explained the real meaning of multitasking and time. To me, the most important, or rather the one that stood out the most, was the lecture on school and what our ideal school would be. To most, school then and now are completely two different sides of the spectrum. When I was younger, school didn't feel like a job I would go to eight hours a day with people I hardly knew. It was fun and it was something I didn't dread going to because I didn't have as much responsibility.…

The Film shows a positive outlook on inner city kids who are struggling to find their way. The beginning of the film depicts the true violence of the school by having a school shooting occur. The Film shows many graphic and intense scenes but it portrays the correct image of what these students go through.
