I completely disagree because there is a major cost difference. A trial seeking the death penalty costs taxpayers approximately 1.5 million dollars, compared to $740,000 when the D.A. seeks life without parole. Little more than half of the $1.5 million can be avoided. Side note, not all cases that are pursuing the death penalty actually get sentenced to death. First, the jury needs to find the defendant guilty of the crime. Once found guilty, the jury decides the fate of that man by deliberating whether the defendant is actually put on death row. So, the D.A.'s office could literally waste $740,000. Once convicted and placed on death row, the convict now costs taxpayers $90,000 more per year than a normal inmate. Inmates may be on death row
