Argumentative Essay: Preventing Drinking And Driving

Drinking and driving is one of the most dangerous problems which cause many of injuries and deaths. Drinking and driving is considered a serious crime because it kills innocent people. According to Sheetz, who recently wrote an article on drunk driving, many young people guilty of driving while drunk do so after taking “one for the road”(192). When a drunk person makes a decision to sit behind the wheel of an automobile and drive home, he or she endangers many of the innocent people on the road. Drunk driving must come to a stop to prevent all this from happening. Local communities can prevent young people from drinking and driving by promoting designated drivers, having checkpoints for drivers in the community, and raising the legal drinking age. The legal drinking age demonstrates the youngest age at which a person is legally allowed to buy alcohol or go to a bar. Having a higher drinking age would be a better law to stop drunk driving. Young teens won’t be able to buy or to go inside a bar to drink if the legal age is higher. The younger the drinkers are, the more chance of an accident or wreck. To sum up, a higher drinking age is the best turnout.
In conclusion, drinking and driving is not right. A designated driver, checkpoint, and raising the minimum legal drinking age are the best solutions to the problem of drinking and driving. Drunk driving might not seem like such a serious problem to some people, but it is a big problem. Drinking and driving are a crime that has to be stopped.
