Argumentative Essay: Prayer In God

Coach Kennedy is not doing anything wrong by praying at the fifty yard line after each game. High school students are young adults and are exposed to a variety of different things in their lives, and seeing someone pray is nothing new to them. According to Matt Calkins, “But the real fact of the matter is that public displays of faith are everywhere. They’re on television, in the streets, and on NFL fields galore”. Not only are high school students used to seeing religion related actions, but a lot of them enjoy doing it too. Players on the team feel as though the praising after the game brings one another together. Matt Calkins states, “It wasn’t just the Christian kids, either. Although many kids are joining Kennedy after the games, the coach has never made an effort to force them to join. For example Calkin explained, “He has never asked anyone else to partake, and he hasn’t gone out of his way to attract attention”. Even during the prayer, Kennedy does not force his religion on anyone else. Kennedy allows players to use that moment during prayer to pray to whatever they wanted to. For instance Calkin stated, “In fact, instead of saying ‘in God’s name’ at the end of the prayer, he invites those around him to use any name they want”. Coach Kennedy should be allowed to praise God after games because he does not force it on the players, the players enjoy it, and many believe that it is a ritual that needs to continue
