Fear, a primal instinct triggering our fight or flight response. When fear strikes, a humans hereditarily response is to subdue the source of that fear. In today’s America, xenophobia has triggered the fears of large portions of people from coast-to-coast. It’s largely known that the 2016 presidential campaign and presidency of Donald Trump has sparked fear and hatred towards immigrants, both legal and illegal. Hate crimes, according to the FBI, increased by 10% from 2015 to 2016, coincidentally the same time period of Trump’s presidential campaign (FBI). Far right politicians are using Cambridge Analytica; a political consulting firm that mines personal data to manipulate people’s fears using personal information extracted from media outlets to exploit and increase xenophobic societal fears (NYT). They’re brainwashing our society, to elect more far right members in efforts to ethnically cleanse minority’s in our country. These anti-immigrant movement leaders label these people as terrorists, rapists, murderers, thieves and drug dealers. No race is superior and different doesn’t mean inferior. Both legal and illegal are not burdens to society, lazy, unproductive and crime filled people. This misguided belief is immoral, unethical and goes against everything America was built on and is supposed to stand for today. It is easy to be afraid and attack something because it’s different, but before this can be done, the facts need to be known. No matter what you do, don’t follow those who appeal to you with fear and push racial superiority for a political agenda. These people want a good life, like we all do. Instead, fight and hold values for individual opportunity, which is what America stands for, and let’s continue to be the melting pot of the
