HS Students. Two classrooms were used for the treatment with music and two classrooms were used for the control groups. A test on vocabulary consisting of 10 words was given to two of these classrooms where the vocabulary words are provided prior to the test to see if music will affect the student’s memory. No name was required to be written on the tests, of course. Classical music was played during the entirety of the experiment.…
Mozart is a classical musician that everyone has heard about. His tantalizing music has captured the attention of multiple generations around the world. However, most people only learn about him when they are teenagers or young adults. What would happen if children were exposed to his music and other genres? This question has been asked by many people and studies have been created to find the answer.…
I play music while I am working on my class work and during class to have a background noise that aids me in focusing while working. I have learned that I learn and retain more when I have background noise like music. I use Pandora to play music as opposed to having the TV on a station since if the TV is on something I would like to watch…
Music is something that many people all around the world love listening to and creating. Other than enjoyment, music has many additional benefits. It is proven that by listening to music, both memory and coordination can be tremendously improved. In addition to that, music allows children to be more focused in school and even get better SAT scores. Music is a very important and necessary component in daily life, but it was not always how it is today.…
Mckeown-Green, who is an epistemologist at Princeton, defines music as an internationally product that organizes in a chronological order. Distinctive arrangements of musical features such as pitches, repetition, and tempo, convey the writer’s sentiments to the listeners or express individual emotions by various genres (Mckeown-Green). Nevertheless, pleasant melody is further than just a method to assert a certain idea, it relaxes and calms a child who suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). At Florida International University, the scientists from the Department of Psychology conducted a study of how hearing catchy tunes while doing your homework affect overzealous adolescents. The researchers have debunked the hasty generalization of how leisure like music and painting divert one from its studying.…
Just like the last paper, I wrote my paper in my living room hearing music. I just like listening to music because I feel that the sound and the lyrics makes my mind wonder. For some people listening to music especially when there is singing it is hard to concentrate. This whole paper took me almost a whole week to finish. I had to find sources that will support my research question and if they are going to provide enough information.…
Memory recall was not as good when text was spoken, compared to recall when the words were memorized to a melody. This correlates with the findings that music without words was the next best condition to silence. It can be theorized that music with lyrics are distracting to the part of the brain that processes speech, so therefore memory recall is not as reliable. Multitasking seems to not be efficient because of the potential for interruptions in memory. In the music without words condition, the brain seems to be able to recall better, perhaps because the rhythmic pattern of music allows the brain to associate a memory with a particular sound or rhythm.…
The most prominent theory of working memory is Baddeley’s multicomponent model (Baddeley,1986, 2000; Baddeley & Hitch,1974). The assumption of this theory is that working memory is made up of several different components. These components are the phonological loop, the visuo-spatial sketchpad, the episodic buffer, and the central executive.…
However, every child learns differently, and it has been proven that having music helps promote brain function. Most people fail to realize that music can be incorporated into other study subjects. Writers Dimitria Kokotsaki and Susan Hallam worked together to create an academic journal titled “The Perceived Benefits of Music Making for Non-Music University Students: A Comparison with Music Students” claims “There is increasing evidence of the impact of active engagement with music on reading and the phonemic awareness and spelling abilities of dyslexic children improved with rhythm-based instruction. Music lessons can also improve performance in mathematics and there have been studies showing relationships between music instruction and verbal memory and enhanced auditory and audiovisual processing of speech and music” (150).…
As my favorite songs, like Leader of the Pack and the End of the World, woosh through my ears and into my brain, I automatically start singing along and can’t concentrate on my English Essay, that is due the next day. With great regret and a large sigh, I take my earbuds out of my ears and, like a good child, set them aside. If I listen to music while studying, reading, or taking a test I can not concentrate on the words on the page and instead focus on the words in the song that I am playing. If I can disengage my mind from my work, which is very easy for me, then the music doesn’t bother me, but I don’t learn the information, as well, if I do that. If I’m copying something down, listening to music doesn’t affect me, other than I don’t process the information I’m copying.…
With the creation of new technologies such as fMRI, researchers have been able to pinpoint specific areas of the brain and when these areas become activated. This advance in technology has proven the ways that music activates parts of the brain differently. Recently, a growing number of researchers have published studies regarding music and the ways it works within the brain. Among these studies exist topics from childhood development to stress management to recovery for severe burn patients and how music can work for them. This research has proven that music can aid in memory, mood, and recovery in patients suffering from mental or physical ailments.…
This week, we discussed school and how it felt to us over the years, and explained the real meaning of multitasking and time. To me, the most important, or rather the one that stood out the most, was the lecture on school and what our ideal school would be. To most, school then and now are completely two different sides of the spectrum. When I was younger, school didn't feel like a job I would go to eight hours a day with people I hardly knew. It was fun and it was something I didn't dread going to because I didn't have as much responsibility.…

“Music is a more pontet instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul. ”-Plato. As a student who started music at just the age of 4, I followed the aesthetic thought to music. My love for music began with the magnificence and gratitude I had for music.…
