I believe that Loewen is right because I have personally experienced much of what he talks about in my own education. I have had history classes that focus on white European history and reduce the history of people of color into nothing more than a few sad sentences. This is something that everyone should care about. A quality education, especially in history, is necessary for anyone who wishes to be an effective member of the global society. An accurate education in history gives students the ability to make connections between American society and global society. It gives students the ability to make connections between past events and current issues influenced by those events. Most importantly, it gives students the ability to look deeper into society and see the flaws present there. I believe that history textbooks have so far failed American students because they do not present an accurate, multicultural history, but an embellished, white, Eurocentric history that history teachers continue to perpetuate to students, hampering students’ ability to think critically about the outcomes of history on our
