As a white person, I understand that I have white privilege, and that I receive help or unacknowledged assistance, because I am white. This doesn’t mean I don’t work hard, or I haven’t suffered hard times, this just simply means, I receive help purely because of my whiteness. People of color don’t receive this only privilege because they are not white.

This privilege starts young, as soon as we are born and as we age. Being white; I can find children’s books that represent my race. In 2013, out of 3,200 children’s books published, only 93 of them featured black characters and people. Only 8% of those 3,200 books were written by people of color. Being white; I have the privilege of having a positive relationship with police, and i don’t have to expect unjust death, something that Tamir Rice, Dajerria Becton, Jonathan Ferrell, Rekia Boyd, Walter Scott, and Eric Garner didn’t have the privilege of having, because they were not white. I have the privilege of being favored and not racially profiled at school, I don’t have to expect to be arrested for racial stereotyping, something that Kiera Wilmont and Ahmed Mohamed didn’t have the privilege of having, because they were not white. These deaths, along with so many others, were unjust and due to racism and white
