Argumentative Essay On Valentine's Day

It’s that time of the year again where love is in the air everywhere you go, stores are buzzing with red and white display and gifts like teddy bears, flowers and chocolates are flying off the shelves. Growing up I use to dread this day because I didn’t have a boyfriend or someone to buy me a gift or at least give me a rose like all the other girls. Years later I got to understand that Valentine’s Day is just a day like any other.
As much as we live in a society that has made Valentine’s Day to be about romantic love, it’s not everyone who is in relationships and you’d find that most young people will be stressed during this and can’t wait for it to be over just because no one will be taking them out to a Valentine’s dinner. These were some of their comments.

• “Valentine’s Day is about love... You don’t need to celebrate it with your boyfriend only but your family members and friends too. If not, love yourself.”

• “I personally think that the answer to this lies on whether we understand the meaning behind the thought of Valentine’s Day, then we can take it from there. We cannot celebrate Agape love if it is Eros love. If a day is made to celebrate romantic love let us stick to it. Yes, we love ourselves and should celebrate love everyday same goes with the story of Jesus on the cross, we know that every day but we celebrate it during Passover. I love myself but Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate a different kind of love. “

• “Don’t comfort yourselves and think that Valentine’s Day is about #TeamSingle”

• I agree, if you single there 's no need to feel left out, spoil yourself rotten with chocolate or delicious dinner for

There will never be love in loneliness.”

The comments above are a clear indication of how our views of Valentine’s Day differs, most guys were against celebrating if you’re single whilst the single girls were all for spoiling themselves on this day.

Here’s a list of things you can do this Valentine’s Day if you’re single

Spoil yourself
Spend some time with yourself, watch your favourite movie, cook yourself a delicious dinner or go out whatever your definition of spoiling yourself is. Read a good book and do some introspection it’s only a holiday that will be over before you know it.

Get together with friends (single)
I personally know how it feels to be alone on Valentine’s Day, beat those blues but having a get together with friends (single friends or not), spend time together, watch a movie, play a game of monopoly or just use the day to catch and have fun together. So you will not feel alone

Spend time in God’s presence
This day might make you feel like the loneliest person on planet earth but the truth is there is someone who loves you more than you can imagine. He wants you to experience the beauty of His love. Why not spend time in His presence? Read the word and discover how special you are to
