Titanic might have stayed afloat longer if the damage has been less severe, allowing more time for rescue ships to arrive before the ship slipped beneath the waves. It has been proven that not all the material that was used in the Titanic was truly what they said it was. “Laboratory tests in the 1990s showed the steel contained higher levels of sulfur than was customary for ship construction at the time. It made the metal more brittle, especially in the icy waters of the North Atlantic.” If you look at a picture of the bow where the ice hit you will see the metal shattered. This is bad because if the material was stronger the metal would have dented not shattered. Higher quality metals could have absorbed more of the shock of the iceberg impact
