This time it was personal. Satan did not like the fact that God spoke well of Job (Job 2:3). Neither did he like the fact that in spite of everything he had done, Job maintained his ways before the Lord. So this time, Satan was not attacking things, he was attacking Job himself. Satan’s theory is that all men are ultimately selfish and nothing or no one matters more to man than man himself. So he tells God that if he would allow him to touch Job’s body, he is sure that he could make him curse him to his face. Once again, God expresses his confidence in the character of Job by allowing Satan to go forward with his plan. God did, however, tell Satan that he had one limitation; he must spare Job’s life.
