The hunger game is a yearly event hosted by the Capitol. In the games 24 teenagers (12 boys and 12 girls) fight to the death. The last one remaining is crowned victor of the games and is showered with wealth. The likely hood of someone being chosen for the games depends on the person’s age, the older they are the higher chance of them being chosen as a tribute. The people are also given an option to volunteer for someone who has been chosen as tribute. This rarely happens except in districts like 1, 2 and 4, they are, an exception. “The exceptions are kids from the wealthier districts, the volunteers, the ones that have been fed and trained throughout their lives for this” (Collins, 94). In districts like 1, 2 and 4 people train all their lives for the Hunger Games. These Districts are the Capitols lapdogs and are treated better than others (but not significantly) in order to provide the Capitol with a better show. In the book, Katniss volunteers for her sister in order to save her. She is then transported to the Capitol where she trains and prepares to enter the arena. Before entering though, she has to perform for the game makers, showing them her skills so she can be scored a score from 1-12 (1 being the lowest 12 being the highest). As she performs she notices the game makers are paying her no attention. “Suddenly [she is] furious, that with [her] life on the line they don’t even have the decency to pay attention to [her]” (Collins, 101). It has gotten to the point that even with someone’s life on the line, the Capitol doesn’t even care anymore. With a government that does not care about the life of its people and disregards it in such a manner it is obvious that this is more than just a bad
