She gets to live in her dream house and gets to meet her soulmate. The only problem is that all of these things were meant for another Eleanor. She hates her house, she doesn’t connect with her soulmate, and she doesn’t enjoy living in the neighborhood. Eleanor desperate to not go to “The Bad Place” asks her fake soul mate, Chidi, to help her become a ‘good’ person. In Chidi’s time on earth, he was a professor of ethics, so he was the perfect person to help her. All while Eleanor is trying to fit in and hide weird things are happening. Shrimps are flying through the air, giant giraffes are walking through the streets and trash is falling from the sky, and the cause is Eleanor. Ryan spends some time describing and summarizing the show and then begins to review it. From the way Ryan discussed The Good Place I can tell that she enjoyed it. Ryan says “Eleanor's quest to both hide her secret and become a better person gives some narrative momentum to the comedy” and I agree. This show is highly comedic with an interesting narrative. The other review I looked at, written by Erik Adams, did not praise The Good Place so highly. Like Ryan, Adams spent a good amount of time summarizing the show. He focused more on the concept of the show rather than the characters actions. Adams focuses a bit on the talent of the actors and actresses in the show and credits them for good performances. Adams goes on to say “does The Good Place sustain itself past its first season?” This is where I disagree with the author. I believe that The Good Place has an excellent chance of surviving past the first
