The Giver Essay

Sometimes people will realize that the community they live become different as they were used to before. People will think that it's not the same as before when they use another “angle” to see through their place or get “deeper” of their place. At that point, they would need to make decisions on either choose to change the issue or just deal with it whether they think it's fair or unfair. When people think their community become different, it's because of others change their mind or they've saw new things that they haven't know before. In this book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, it is about a boy who are making decisions whether to change his community or just deal with it like the same as before. It is a fantasy,

Jonas is almost twelve, it is the time for him to get assigned for job. One of the Elders will announce the jobs that they assigned to people at the ceremony. Everyone got their jobs, but Jonas got skipped. At last the Elder explain that Jonas has been “selected” to be The Receiver of Memory. Jonas got “selected” because most people in the community have darker eyes, there were very few people have lighter eyes, and so Jonas is one of the very few people that has lighter eyes. Jonas will be doing this job for the rest of his life, he will start the training first. Jonas will be released from the community if the sick baby, Gabriel (their family had been taking care) doesn’t get better during a year or two between. Jonas got a list of rules for doing the Receiver training. He cannot discuss his training with anyone including his family and friends. He is allowed to lie and could ask any questions even though it’s rude to anyone. Jonas started his training that consists of receiving series of memories from the old Receiver, which is to be known as “The Giver”. The old man is passing all the memories of humanity from the past to Jonas. Because Jonas didn’t see these before, it’s new to him, he doesn’t know what they’re called. When I got back, it's like a new place for me, everything has changed. There were new things that I didn’t saw before. The building that I've been living got old as new buildings were built. Out of the building were filled with trash, it’s not the same as before. When I'm walking in the street, I realized that when drivers are driving their cars on the roads, they are like “bossy.” When people are crossing the street, the drivers won't let them cross first, whether they're kids, adults, or elderly, unless they're very close. No matter, whose problem, it always like the people who are crossing the street’s fault. Some drivers just yell at them, and some just beeping, but I can't do anything to change it. It became a part of this community and people were used to this type of issue, so I just have to deal with it. I was thinking, “is this the community that I used to know during the seven years childhood living there. There's a big differences during these years, but I just have to deal with
