The Circle by Dave Eggers is about the circle which is a technology company that finds new innovative ways to change the world. Its main goal is to complete the circle and have everyone connected using their technology. They recruit and hire people that have the same mindset as them and will do whatever it takes to complete the Circle, mae was hired for this very reason. Mercer, maes ex-boyfriend and wants to get away from the chaotic, technological world that the circle has bestowed upon us. Having too much ambition can change your world for the worst. The circle’s only goal is to complete the circle. This entails that everyone is to be connected through their social media. They also tried getting everyone’s Truyou accounts linked up for voting in the united states. Furthermore, they have pressured politicians into going transparent which meant they would wear a camera around their necks so that everyone could see what was going on in their day to day lives. She started as a basic customer experience person her first few weeks and has moved her way through the ranks to being the ambassador of the transparency movement. She is driven to do many of the tasks she does for the circle so that her father can get the medical care that he needs for his disease Kalden told mae that once its made mandatory for everyone to have an account she would have created the world’s first tyrannical monopoly(Eggers 404) which ultimately does happen. “Increasingly, she found it difficult to be off campus anyway”(Eggers 373) Mae doesn’t like leaving campus because the outside world is depressing and boring in her opinion and she will do anything for the circle, including changing how the world works for the worse because of her ambition to not be a boring
