Argumentative Essay On Thanksgiving

Decent Essays
On Thanksgiving, people have fun with their family and friends. It’s a day where they share a meal and drink alcohol together. However, in my family, we do not celebrate Thanksgiving because the holidays are different because of our culture. In my country, Dominican Republic celebrates Christmas Eve, which is the same as Thanksgiving, but the food is different compared to the food in America. Christmas Eve is still celebrated on December 24th; the food that the family makes is Pernil, rice, beans, and some wine. Furthermore, people enjoy that moment with the family and friends to share and talk about what had happened during the whole year.

Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as he best can, the same cause” (Lincoln). In 1863, during the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, expressed his gratitude to the whole nation, honoring soldiers who stood up to protect the rights and the country and those civilians who supported those veterans. As Lincoln wrote a letter to veterans, people and the government at that time started to recognize veterans’ effort and work because they knew that veterans sacrificed their lives to protect their country. As a result, the US government not only celebrates Veteran’s Day, but also makes memorials…

In the articles “Three Cheers for the Nanny State,” “Ban the Ban!,” and “Soda’s a Problem but…”, all three authors present their arguments with facts, opinions, and counterclaims. However, one article presents itself better than the rest. I believe that the article “Soda’s a Problem, but...” was the most convincing article. Sarah Conly- the author who wrote “Three Cheers for the Nanny State”- argues that the soda restriction is a good idea because people would be stopped from making foolish decisions that they’ll pretty definitely regret.…

History Essay Nobody likes critical history - the side of history that no one wants to celebrate - yet it is critical to look at all sides of a celebrated historic event before judging. You might find that the cause for celebration only masks the horrific violence beneath. People with celebratory viewpoints, such as historians Schweikart and Allen, made and honored “Columbus Day,” a national holiday celebrating the beginning of the Columbian exchange and the formation of the nation we know today. However, the critical history of the event is recognized by an increasing number…

Christmas is coming up and I'm sure most of us are dreading those overcrowded shopping malls. Aside from the busy stores and pushy shoppers, my least favorite part of the holidays is my drindling wallet. With being a full time Mom to three children, I often find it complicated to stick to a budget. I'm always trying to keep Christmas being the "big" holiday for my family. I always try to make it extra special for everyone involved, and try to at least buy one or two things each that the kids have shown interest in over the year.…
