Argumentative Essay On Stereotypes In Schools

For years, stereotypes have affected all of us whether it is because of the way we look or because of the things we like. A number of parents and educators have recently suggested that stereotypes have no part in why their kids or students are failing or not doing too well in school. Americans today believe that it is because of their kids or students negligence and lack of maturity that is the true problem. In recent discussions the topic of stereotypes causing harmful effects on students' ability to succeed has been the center of a heated debate. While some people argue that stereotypes have nothing to do with a student's academic performance,many others and I counter this argument by suggesting that in fact, stereotypes do have a large part in why students are performing poorly in school. It is stated by a stanford researcher Steven J. Spencer that “ Let's say on the SAT you have a score of 1200, what would that predict about your GPA at university? It would predict a 3.2 GPA. What has been observed in high-stereotype-threat environments is that that 1200 does not predict a 3.2 GPA but a 3”.
