Argumentative Essay On Stargirl

My guess is that you’ve experienced peer pressure at least once in your life. Pushed into doing something you may not have wanted to do. Why? For fear of your friends or someone you like thinking you’re weird because you didn’t do this or that you’re a coward because you didn’t try that. This is called conformity-where you try to act cool and behave and think in a way that is widely socially acceptable. There are standards in place for which you feel the need to follow. Someone like this is called a conformist. But some people stand out. Some people are not conformists and are instead individualists. They think and act independently no matter what other people say. Stargirl, a character in my book, also called Stargirl, was an individualist. She went to Mica Area High School. It was not individual. But, when she went to the school, she brought it a gift that no other student had heard of before: the gift of individuality. What this book shows, is the value of individualism. This book teaches readers to not all be conformists. It teaches the reader to be individual.

It’s making an impact on the people around that really makes you individual. To be individual is to make other people lives different-in a good way. Stargirl does this by singing happy birthday, in front of everyone, to a random person she hadn’t met. Near the end of the book, the narrator goes into a shed in which Stargirl worked and found that she had a calendar of everyone in the whole school’s birthday marked, most likely to sing happy birthday to every one of them when it was their birthday.
