Argumentative Essay On Standardized Testing

Standardized tests are not an accurate measure of a student’s academic abilities. Testing can have many different factors that occur, making it quite inaccurate. Education is a fragile matter that must not be taken lightly. Extensive thought should go into making a child’s education as stress free and effective as possible. High-stake and standardized test need to be used with caution and care in the school system because of the many things they do that eventually lead to the harm of student learning. It is a mistake to assume that all students are the same, and learn the same way as well. Humans learn at different rates, so why are students being forced to learn certain things according to their age? (Bjerede). All students cannot learn the same way. Finding ways to accommodate for the students that may learn a little bit faster or slower than others is necessary to ensure that they are not overlooked. There is no substitute for activities in a classroom that require your hands. (Cleaver). Ideas like this show just how important these activities are, especially for a student’s cognitive learning. A classroom must be focused on interactive activities rather than having an over reliance on testing. The best way students get the most out of what they are being taught is by actually doing what they learn and applying it accordingly. It has been said, “The best way to engage children’s brains is by having them move their hands” (Cleaver). Studies show and solidify the importance of moving and interacting during student learning. Testing has its appropriate time, but there are other approaches to teaching that should come first because they are more beneficial to students. Hands on activities do more than just have students move things around, they stimulate kids’ brains so they can learn more efficiently.
