The idea of the space elevator dates back to 1895, when Konstanin Tsiolkovsky a Russian phycicist, proposed the idea. The idea was then rediscovered several times by numerous engineers such as, Yuri Artsutanov, Jerome Pearson, Arthur Clarke, and Charles Sheffield. In this paper, we will discuss how the elevator works, the advantages and disadvantages, and the obstacles during the process of forming the elevator. The space elevator is a tower that you can ride into outer space. NASA created a competition, where if anyone could build a useable model of an elevator, they would receive a financial reward.
