Slaughtering animals is now hidden away from the public eye. Now there are abattoirs in which slaughter takes place. This is due to hygiene and to prevent cross contamination. As these practices are moving inwards towards communities this leads to an array of implications. By placing the slaughterhouses in such proximity to the community this leads to a bad odour, low-cost housing as people would not like to live nearby such facilities, also there is a strain on public health. The farms in which the animals are raised consists of many animals, their manure contains nitrogen and phosphorus which is dangerous towards human health and also the effect on the communities water supply. A study carried out into the killing of animals explains to us how millions of animals are being slaughtered each year, not just for food but also for display and clothing, (Fudge, 2006). It is sad once you look at the statistics of how many animals are killed and for what different purposes they are then used for. Nearly every aspect of our lives is dependent on innocent animals losing their lives. Things such as medicine, beauty, clothing and display. Statistics and figures about this large-scale pandemonium are easily accessible through the internet and books, it still remains to have little effect on people. There is the proportion of society who do not consume anything from animals due to their own beliefs and then there is the proportion that do. People will argue both sides as to which is best for you and a conclusion will never be met. However, it is not the eating of the meat that is the major issue it is the way in which the animals are reared and slaughtered that needs to change
