Starting high school at 9:15 am, middle schools between 8:20 am and 8:30 am and elementary between 7:40 am and 9:15 am is estimated to cost 9.4 million dollars (Pegher 2). The amount of money that the taxpayers pay for school would increase if the school start time is later. Moving high school start time to 8:30 am, middle schools to 9:30 am and elementary schools between 7:50, estimated to cost 8.9 million (Pegher 2). The facts that researchers have gather show that 600,000 dollars for 30 minutes earlier and 9.6 million with 30 minutes earlier and late start time for high schools. The reason why this cost much more is due to the need of the buses and staff to keep track of the schools. On the Other Hand, the government already takes money away from taxpayers, so they can just take more if needed. But actually people might not have money with all the taxes the government takes out that they might not pay their bills and it includes everybody. Everything cost money and with more taxes being taken out of paychecks it would be harder to live a life. the government about half the paychecks and people suffer enough just to keep their children satisfied. People should take some action and stand up for what they believe and so should the students by making posters and involving more people into helping out instead of just laying

All middle and High schools should start the educational day later to allow the adequate amount of sleep for America’s teenage youth. Too many schools across the country begin the day before student minds are awake, alert, and ready to successfully take on the day. Students from the sixth to twelfth grade are currently attending school before their brains have had time to prepare for the day. This makes everything they do, including simple everyday tasks, far more of a challenge than it typically should be. Oftentimes, teenagers, as well as society as a whole, put sleep on the backburner.…

Recent studies show that students who wake up at times different than their “natural sleep clocks” have an easier time adjusting to the times they’ll have to wake up at when they start to work. When students don’t go directly to college they go into the workforce, meaning they will need to be awake and prepared at a different time. Schools should not start or end later to accommodate student’s “natural sleep clocks” due to the fact that before and after school some students need to take care of younger siblings as well as other students who may go to work. Firstly, teenagers often have younger siblings that need to be helped to get ready early in the morning for school and help them after school.…

Did you know that only one in every five middle and high schools start after 8:30 A.M, yet the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that middle and high schools start after 8:30 A.M. Students that don’t get enough sleep are more likely to be overweight, not engage in daily physical activity, suffer from depressive symptoms, engage in unhealthy risk behaviors such as drinking, smoking tobacco, and using illicit drugs, and perform poorly in school. American Academy should start later because students are more likely to have bad things happen to them, and students cannot learn well when their brains are still asleep. Most students that don’t get enough sleep engage in things that are unhealthy. The CDC states that students who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to be overweight, not engage in daily physical activity, suffer from depressive symptoms, engage in unhealthy risk behaviors such as drinking, smoking tobacco, and using illicit drugs, and perform poorly in school. Students that got about nine hours of sleep are more likely to improve their health, mindset, and academic results.…

It has become troublesome and confusing to me as to why our local school district would require children in intermediate school (10 to 12 years old) to start school at 7:40 a.m. Please note that this is their start time and doesn’t include their actual wake up time, prep time and travel to school. As I began to research this more in depth I was stunned to find the numerous effects and potential effects in relation to academics, physiological and the emotional distress it could have on students. My wife and I also reached out to other students’ parents and became even more intrigued as that they shared the same concerns and problems they recently were seeing in their own children. I honestly believe when something becomes more personal…
