Argumentative Essay On Robin Hood History

The story of the daring outlaw who stole from the rich and gave to the poor has been told to children throughout the years. Between movie adaptations and Halloween costumes, Robin Hood is known everywhere. Although the 21st century has changed the true story in hopes to entertain its audience, most people do not know who the real Robin of Locksley is. There are various differences from the movies and his real life such as the time that he lived, people mistaken as the actual Robin Hood, and the different depictions of his love interest, Maid Marian. Movie productions and authors debate on when the story of Robin Hood actually took place. Film makers who decided to revert the legend to the big screen usually set the story during the reign of Richard I. They focused on the period when the king was captured and held prisoner on his way back from the Crusades (McGlynn, 1). The original Robin lived around the year of 1225 and was called Robert Hode (Who was Robin Hood?). This man became an outlaw and found safety in the woods away from captivity. Robert Hode was the closest candidate for being the actual Robin Hood that lived in that time period (Who was Robin Hood?). Afterwards, many outlaws in England began to appear influencing others to think they indeed were the notorious outlaw. In 1262, a man named Robert LeFevre, an outlaw who was brought before the court, changed his name to Robin Hood (Who was Robin Hood). Years later an historical document called the Scotichronicon was found to contain text saying, “then arose the celebrated bandit Robert Hood, with Little John and their accomplices, whose achievements, the foolish vulgar delight to celebrate in ballads” (Who was Robin Hood?).
