The Right to Die The right to die, also known as dying with dignity, supports the rights of terminally ill patients to end their life on their own terms. Physician-assisted suicide is illegal in all but 5 states, and the physician is charged with murder. There are many court cases that support and go against the right to die involving real life situations. One example would be Luis Kutner, his goal was to help dying people exercise their rights to control their end-of-life medical care. So there are many pros and cons for the right to die, but you also have to look at both the patients and the physicians perspectives.

Doctors often make mistakes and the patient might not be suffering and their illness could possibly be cured. Most are told to seek a second opinion, or a different kind of treatment beforehand. By legalizing assisted suicide, it abuses the system, legalizes murder and it demeans the value of human life. It has the possibility of reducing the chances of miracles happening or even there being a possibility of recovery. Those in favor for assisted suicide have many options in dealing with that process, including a living will and DNR orders. The ones that are against it have their options as well, and they include getting more opinions from more physicians, and also trying new treatments for the illness. The patients all have the right to die and receive a physician-assisted suicide. On the other hand, the doctors have the right to help, given the fact that they are assisting for the right reasons and also the right to refuse.
