According to the U.S. department of Justice’s National Crime victimization survey, 237,868 females worldwide, on average, are victims of sexual violence or rape each year. (Raval, 2008) With the noticeable upsurge in cases of domestic violence against women, comes an increase in the number of women and girls suffering from rape. Indeed, rap has become a serious worldwide problem yet not many people are actually trying to combat it. Knowing that rape is an immoral and cruel act, actions should be done to fight against it. Safe abortions should be legal on demand and physicians should minimize the casualties as much as possible. Studies show that, in Argentina, 78% of physicians believe that if abortion becomes legal, the percentage of maternal mortality would drop. (Silva et al, 2008). Also, the number of physicians who are now supporting abortion in Mexico is increasing, hence providing this legal right to women and ensuring a safe procedure. The UN Human Rights Bodies now consider the death of a woman due to unsafe abortion as a violation to her right to life and include the reproductive right to safe and legal abortion.
