Argumentative Essay On Rakshasa Marriage

Decent Essays
Rakshasa marriage, this marriage is like a fairytale, whereas the groom uses force to woo the girl. The groom will battle with the bride`s family until he overcomes them, carries his love away and convinces her to marry him. Some people argue this is not an appropriate type of marriage and considered it to be a forced marriage. “Hindu scriptures describe this form of marriage as forcible abduction of a maiden from her home, while she cries and weeps, after her kinsmen have been slain or wounded and their house broken. Women, thus, caused many fights and battles in ancient times” (Rakshasa Marriage | Shagun (Shagun RSS).

Since Puritans did not see marriage as a holy commitment, but rather as a mere legal contract irrelevant to one's religious views, the Puritans believed that a marriage ceremony should be performed by a magistrate and not a member of the clergy. This issue of Puritans not recognizing marriage as being linked to religion, allowed them not to see the end of a marriage as a sin. They believed that if the initially agreements made at the beginning of the marriage were broken; there was cause for the marriage to end. They allowed for a divorce in instances that included “adultery, fraudulent contract, willful desertion and total…
