I go to Corpus Christi Catholic Church In Macon Mississippi. The congregation here is heavily populated by those of the Hispanic Ethnicity. One of my fellow youth members, named Brisa Chora, is currently age fourteen. She is rapidly approaching her fifteenth birthday which is on April the twentieth. At Mass this past week, Brisa stood up during the allotted time for announcements and told all of the parishioners of her upcoming Quinceanera. She told us that for her party, that will be on on April the sixteenth, we are all invited and she would love it if we could be there. She proceeded to explain to us that the ceremony will begin with a Communion Service at none other than Corpus Christi. After this, the gathering will move to the Macon …show more content…
It entails aspects of religion as well as socializing with friends and family. The party is a way of embracing the girl’s transition from youth to maturity. It includes customs that portray this transformation, like the Changing of the Shoes. This is where the usually the father or the designated male relative changes the recipients shoes from flats to heels to signify her growth in maturity. Yet, it is not all serious, dancing,singing, and laughter are all highly involved. Another unique aspect of Quinceaneras is the way the involve the Court of Honor. The Court of Honor is close friends of the girl who is receiving her Quinceanera. These participants usually include close family members who she would like to share her special day with in an honorable way. The attire for the Quinceanera usually is very fancy. The birthday girl buys a new dress which is very fancy and typically a ball gown. Her Court of Honor will also be wearing ball gowns for the girls and tuxedos for the boys. At the reception, a toast will be made for the birthday girl, it is called the brindis.The guests who attend the celebration usually leave with a small party favor from the family of the party recipient.
