As most have probably perceived from experiencing stress, it costs their health negatively. Surprisingly, people have been procrastinating for years, going back to around 700 BC in Greece when Hesiod wrote against the behavior of his over-relying brother Perses in his poem. "Do not put your work off till tomorrow and the day after; for a sluggish worker does not fill his barn, nor one who puts off

A study conducted by the Huron University(2007) showed that college students who were made to do high-effort high-stress condition assignments or lengthy essays with short time limit, procrastinated more than those who either had to write less or had more time, which lead to more anxiety (Musolino, 2007 p.232, 234). Thus, the paper quality would be low since the writing amount is large, but the time to work on it is short. Also, Musolino (2007, p.237) states of the students' motives come from sleep deprivement, caffeine, and stress rather than energy leading to more procrastination, emphasizing the necessity to balance the management of stress and time. A psychologist in Texas, Pickhardt (2009) explains that procrastination is costly because delay shortens the time to finish a project, and the deadline induces pressure and stress. Also, the aftermath of the effort is fatigue, burnout or even breakdown, affecting the health of the student very greatly. Stress takes its toll in many forms from short term to long term, regular to chronic. In Sirois and Pychyl's procrastination and health model (2016, p.76), indirectly, they cause inadequate diet and exercise, obesity, cardiovascular problems, physical inactivity, sleep insufficiency, and other minor health issues. On the other hand, direct problems are headaches, infections, gastrointestinal issues, inflammatory dysregulation, immunocompromise, and other serious problems. On the contrary, active procrastinators deliberately procrastinate as they prefer to work under pressure (Chu and Choi). Studies have revealed three major themes in active procrastinators which include purposeful delays on school work to facilitate greater efficiency even if it means losing sleep to get the work done closer to the due date, systematical procrastination to attain passing grades, and appealing academic social outcomes which leads students to do it again because they conceived a satisfying outcome previously and felt the action of procrastination to be worth the end results (Hensley). Recent statistics have revealed an estimated eighty to ninety-five percent of college and university level students suffer from active procrastination, and thirty to fifty percent of students said they had difficulties with preparing for exams, beginning the written process of papers, and doing class readings (Yerdelen). Statistics revealed ten to twelve percent of those college students to be under extreme stress and one of the main stressors being school related due to procrastination (Peer et…

Because, as delay shortens time to get a project done, deadline pressure induces stress to get it done. Graduating from high school, many of these young people take the habit with them to college, making that demanding experience more stressful too. For example, stoked with stimulants like caffeine, sugar, or high energy drinks to stay awake, they pull an all-night stand to get a paper done, stagger to class to turn it in, quickly leaving class to go and get a good day's sleep, missing lecture content they will be tested on next week. It is also harder to attend school when an individual is older because whenever an individual is older, they might have a lot going on at the time period and may not be able to attend the lecture. Students should attend college because they have many opportunities to…
