One reasonable counterargument is the fact that all police officers will theoretically be given these devices but do all officers really need these cameras to question their actions, or realistically only a select few. An alternative solution instead of this expensive technology would be to simply put offending officers on temporary probation with special monitoring. In a similar sense, America should not be relying on cameras to stop racism, but rather education is the cure to this prevalent issue. This country is on the precipice of change, and like most things, education and schooling can change the thinking and philosophies of the young. The violent regarding police officers is only the tip of the iceberg to a nationwide issue that occurs in many areas and other professions. In addition, yet another reason to question to the effectiveness of these cameras is that they are often not even admissible in a court of law. Despite video evidence, police officers often can find ways around being connected by footage even if the evidence is very clear because jurors are presented with two-dimensional information that can be misinterpreted. While some individuals may argue to benefits of this technology by its ability to make officers more accountable, lower filed complaints, and create a safer environment for both officers and civilians alike, these reasons fail to justify the great cost and invasion of privacy. Some justifications for the cameras’ clear violation of civilian rights and great cost, lack significance foundation and even may prove that these devices decrease the effectiveness of the police force in America. Without any doubt, police cameras are not effective and are at a great cost to the American public, and should not be given to police officers.
