Unit 3 Argumentative Essay
Police Brutality
There are a lot of news and videos that go around on the media such as television, Facebook, or YouTube of police brutality. Some may be justified, but of course others not so much. Sometimes either the media is misinformed or doesn’t know a certain fact such as a weapon being involved or a person resisting arrest. But the police don’t always have the right to put their hands on civilians for no reason. Within these next paragraphs I am going to speak on how the police do & don’t have the right to arrest or harass someone.
Now while some cops aren’t right in what they do, some police officers are justified in using just enough force on an obstruct person. Sometimes when I …show more content…
First, I`d like to cover the fact that some civilians deserve brute force and others like Alton Sterling don’t. Obviously if a police officer tells you to put your hands up and lay on the floor, you do it. But if when he asks you to do so and you decide to charge at him then clearly you will get treated and handled with brutal force. Even though officers of the law have to take precautions towards all civilians, there is a limit of brute force that needs to be enforced. Another one of my claims is that the African American community is being targeted by racist cops that still believe that how it was back in the 60’s, is how it should be. “Nearly 1 in 3 black people killed by police in 2015 were identified as unarmed, though the actual number is likely higher due to underreporting.” “37% of unarmed people killed by police in 2015 were black, despite African Americans being only 13% of the U.S population.”
In conclusion, some people need to understand that if a police officer tells you to do something, you have to do it. Whether the officer is right or wrong you do what they say, but one way or another, police brutality has to end. I can conclude that there are more cops terrorizing people than good cops helping & standing up for the people of the community. I also believe that racist cops should get pointed out & taken out of the judicial system. At the end of the day, I feel African Americans are the more targeted race and the BLM movement should be taken more
