There are many teachers in students and universities all around the globe that argue that technology is doing more harm to students than actually helping them. In fact, as the use of technology has escalated over the past few years, tech-related issues such as plagiarism have escalated as well. “(…) plagiarism and cheating in school has been around for centuries” (Cambridge Educational); however, today’s new technology leads to new ways of cheating. The educational video CyberEthics (Cyberspace: Academic Dishonesty) exposes how American teachers have found an increase in cheating via technology, with for example students texting themselves during tests and plagiarizing by copying work from the internet and presenting it as their own. Nevertheless, cheating among students doesn’t exist simply because technology exists. Even though technology does facilitate plagiarism as it has so much content available and so many ways of communicating with it, cheating and plagiarizing have much more to do with student’s ethics, values, and morals than with …show more content…
The issue of technology in the learning environment is not “black or white” as many may think, but rather an learning option with both positive and negative aspects. For technology to be used appropriately in the learning environment, and avoiding its negative effects on students and their performance, it is important to educate both students and teachers on how to use technology responsibly and actively in order to take advantage from it. We currently live in the 21st century, the so-called “digital era” and therefore we can´t act as if technology didn’t exist and try to ban it from learning environments; we need to embrace technology and work in order to be able to use it in the best possible way and take advantage from
