Some positive effects that someone with OCD might have is always having a clean and well organized room, office, and car. Not only that, but since they love to triple check on things, someone who suffers from OCD will likely make less mistakes (Penzel, 2016). Some other positives that come with this disorder is being very scheduled and being able to get everything they need done. An individual who suffers from OCD will constantly have thoughts that hang in one’s mind that constantly repeat. It can be a positive attribute as an individual will not forget things, but it can be a hindrance when they need to be studying or taking a test. There are also some negative attributes that come along with having OCD. It is all about learning how to cope with the negative side of OCD and turning it into something positive. Some negative effects would have to be getting anxiety from constantly checking on things, needing to repeatedly wash hands, and then begin to suffer from other psychological disorders (Goodman, 2016). OCD can lead to other disorders like “social isolation, low social functioning and comorbid illnesses such as anxiety/panic disorders and depression” (Thomsen, 1998, p. 11). As popular as this disorder is, it is a serious and deathly health condition that could lead to other serious health conditions.
