(Kayla) According to BBC News the NRA disbursed 3.3 million dollars on manipulating gun control in 2014 (“US gun control”). Given the information gathered from credible sources the NRA is providing financial contributions to lawmakers in order to secure the gun laws and regulations they want. This is not a fair fight for people opposed to those laws and regulations thus making what the NRA is doing unjust, but the NRA was not always this extreme of an organization.
(Shamsa -describing the NRA) The NRA stands for National Rifle Association. It is an American nonprofit organization that advocates for gun rights. This organization was founded in 1871 which is 146 years ago. The people that founded the NRA are William Conant Church and George Wood Wingate. In the year 2017 the NRA has around 5 million members (“National Rifle Association”). The organization also “founded to advance rifle marksmanship” and “continues to teach firearm competency and safety” (“National Rifle Association”). NRA is alleged to pay off lawmakers to vote according to their wishes in correspondence with gun laws when they are “facing gun-related legislation” (Caldwell, 2016). When these nominated bureaucrats are in office and a law related to guns is brought up, the NRA strongly sways their votes. The voters or in other words, lawmakers, vote just like everyone else is able to. Although, they have a twist to their voting. That twist is the NRA bribing them into making decisions regarding their personal votes based on what the NRA would vote. This is all because the organization can afford to sway the lawmakers votes. Most of the time this means that the selected officials will vote pro-gun whether or not they agree with that
