Men who worked full-time comprised over 60% of the workforce in two occupations: Machinery Operators and Drivers; and Technicians and Trades Workers. Women’s share of the full-time workforce exceeded that of men in the two most female-dominated occupations including Clerical and Administrative Workers (42.6% women compared to 21.5% men). Clerical and Administrative Workers will no doubt be payed less than for Machinery Operators and Drivers even though they both work full time, this also affects the average. This undoubtedly proves that women tend to chose a career which is lower payed, and It can not be suggested women should be payed equal for work which is not as hard and requires less qualification. According to the Australian Bureau of statistics the leading causes of death in men are heart disease, Trachea and lung cancer, Strokes, Chronic lower respiratory diseases, Prostate cancer and Suicide. 78 per cent of deaths from suicide are male. A male is more likely to commit suicide than a female, in fact In 2013, 1,885 males committed suicide to the 637 females who committed suicide. The question i want to ask is what would be happening if these figures were the other way around? One thing is for sure you can bet your life that there would be front page news and there would be large injections of money into health campaigns. So why is nothing being done for men? it is unquestionable that there are imbalances in the healthcare system between men and women.
